Christmas Music in January ? We were forced by a fire alert to stop our Christmas concert on Dec 18th after just 10 minutes – a great disappointment to the 70 members of the choir who had worked so hard on the programme and, of course our audience ..not to be outdone, Grenville has re-scheduled the concert for Saturday January 29th at St Michaels Church in Broad Street, Bath. The concert will start at 7-30pm and those people who purchased tickets for Dec 18th are warmly invited.
Grenville promises “ A similar programme with a few New Year twists!”
There are limited tickets priced £15 – please apply to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01761 472468 after January 4th please when we start back.
Welcome to the website for The Welcome Chorus Choir. We rehearse on Thursday evenings at St Bart’s Church in King Edward Road, Oldfield Park, Bath BA2 3PB. We restart for 2022 on January 13th we would love to see you. Everyone is welcome to come along with a friend! Our conductor is Grenville Jones who enjoys the reputation of being ‘Bath’s Mr Music!’. The accompanist is Philip Ridgers who works with Grenville on a number of his music projects. www.grenvillejones.biz The Welcome Chorus Choir is an amalgamation of two of Grenville’s popular choirs which were forced to stop singing by the COVID pandemic in March 2020. Through the following months Grenville introduced Zoom choir rehearsals which were attended by members from both The Bath Chorus and The Welcome Choir. The Zoom Welcome Chorus Choir ‘performed’ at a number of online concerts towards the end of 2020. Grenville then made the decision to bring the two choirs together under one singing roof and the title The Welcome Chorus.
“We rehearse on Thursday evenings at St Bart’s which has a wonderful acoustic and is a delightful Church at which to rehearse and perform. The repertoire of The Welcome Chorus will be varied with the emphasis always on performing to entertain our audiences. This will be a large choir and there will not be auditions to join, but members will be expected to have a love of music and some experience of singing in a group.”
The choir will perform at concerts and take part in tours around the UK and even further. In past years Grenville’s many choirs have raised thousands of pounds for both local and national charities and The Welcome Chorus will also take part in fundraising concerts throughout their singing year.
The Bath WelcomeChorus meet on Thursday evenings from 7.45pm to 9pm at St Barts Church in King Edward Road, Oldfield Park, Bath, BA2 3PB, a lovely rehearsal venue with a superb acoustic, excellent grand piano and is easy to find. See you there …
We welcome new singers in all parts - Soprano - Alto - Tenor - Bass. Previous singing experience is not necessary but you may be new to the Bath area, missing your choir and looking for a friendly choir to join. If you love to sing, please come and meet us on a Thursday. Everyone is welcome to attend St Bart’s to find out more about our friendly concert choir. Full membership details will be available for you to take away.
The choir recorded a number of popular hymn tunes back in 2019 and are available to listen to on a new website called www.hymsearch.co.uk. Grenville's idea is that people who are searching for a hymn for a special occasion may find it helpful to listen to and see the words for popular hymns that they may like to choose for their occasion - 'O Perfect Love' for instance, is a popular Wedding hymn and as a taster here is the Bath Chorus singing it for you. We hope that this new website will be a useful aid to those who are searching for a special hymn.
The choir has an extensive repertoire and in the past has performed regularly at Bath Abbey as well as many other local churches and concert venues in the West Country. They have performed at Coventry Cathedral and one of the highlights of recent years was a memorable concert with the RAF Central Band supporting the Help for Heroes Charity. It has also appeared with Aled Jones and last year (2018), together with the City of Bath Male Choir (also conducted by Grenville). They helped to raise over £12,000 for the British Heart Foundation in 2017 following the untimely death of a member of both choirs. Regular appearances at Bath Festival’s ‘Party in the City’ as well as joint concerts with many other groups has contributed to the reputation of the Bath Chorus as being one of the friendliest and best supportive choirs in the City of Bath.
